REDLANDS, Calif.-Early deficits proved too much to overcome for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (0-4 overall) fell in the first day of the Inland Empire Classic Saturday.
A four-goal deficit in the early going put Fresno Pacific in a hole too big to dig out of as the Sunbirds fell 19-10 to the Redlands Bulldogs.
Scott Tashima scored the lone goal in the first quarter for FPU but Redlands built a 5-1 advantage by the start of the second.
Christian Clark,
William Green and
Eugenio Maldonado would all score in the first half as FPU drew as close as 6-4, but Redlands scored five straight times to pull away.
The 'Birds returned to the pool in the afternoon to take on Occidental with Green netting a hat trick and
Pietro Cattano dishing out three assists but FPU came up short, falling 13-9.
FPU fell behind by two goals at the end of the first quarter and couldn't recover despite tallying five second half goals and holding Occidental to just two scores in the fourth.
