SURPRISE, Ariz.- Seniors shined through in the final match of the season as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (12-8 overall) capped the year with a 4-3 win over the Colorado Mesa Mavs (13-13 overall) Thursday night in the PacWest Championships at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Club.

The Sunbirds put on the resiliency that their season has been filled with in order to cap the FPU careers of seniors Lea Falentin and Sanne Brull on a high note.

Fresno Pacific started doubles off strong with wins on courts 1 and 3.

Nayuma Subba and Elise Leik were up 6-5 on court 2 when play was halted due to the Sunbirds clinch.

The lone Mavs win of the day quickly with straight sets win on court 6.

A retirement by the Mavs Halle Romero gave the Sunbirds the win on court 2 to go ahead 2-1.

On court 5, Leik issued a dominant performance with a win over Paige Furin (7-6 (4), 6-1).

With her second singles win, Leik completed the postseason undefeated in singles play.

Battles ensued on the rest of the courts as a majority went to a third and final deciding set.

Brull started off strong winning the first set 6-2 but found herself in a fight for the 3rd after dropping the 2nd 6-2.

In true veteran form, Brull bounced back unfazed to take the third set 6-2.

The deciding match of the night came down to court 1 where Falentin battled against Issy Coman, who entered on a nine-match winning streak.

Coman displayed her dominance early taking the first set 6-2.

In the second set, Falentin showed her perseverance bouncing back to take the set 6-3.

The third set went serve for serve until Falentin broke Coman and held serve to take the set 6-4.

Fresno Pacific finishes the year on a positive note with the seniors both going out with wins.

Brull earned her fifth straight and won nine of her final ten matches to close her FPU career.

Falentin snapped her opponents streak but finished the year winning 11 of 13 and finished the year 14-6 in number one singles.

The Sunbirds finish the season with a record of 12-8 and take ninth place at the conference tournament.
