Fresno, California-
Elise Leik and
Sanne Brull each pulled doubled duty as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (3-3 overall) grabbed the first five points in a 5-2 home win over the Dominican Penguins (1-3 overall) Saturday at the Haak Tennis Complex.
Â
The Sunbirds grabbed the lead in doubles with Leik and partner
Nayuma Subba cruising to a 6-1 win for the lead on court no. 3.
Â
Lea Falentin and
Audrey Ouellet came up just short in their battle on court no. 1, losing 7-5 and tying doubles before Brull and
Daimy Paula secured the point with a 6-4 win.
Â
Up a point, it was Brull and Leik who put FPU on the doorstep of the victory almost instantly.
Â
Brull's win only saw her drop 2 games in a 6-2, 6-0 decision.
Â
Leik then made her return to singles play impactful, clousing out a 6-4, 6-2 victory that put Fresno Pacific one point away from a win.
Â
Two Sunbirds were leading after one set and it Ouellet that closed it out in a tiebreaker.
Â
The final point for the Lady 'Birds came from
Lea Falentin, who bounced back after dropping the opening set to grind out a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 win.
Â
Subba and Paula each finished out their matches in tie-breakers since FPU had clinched the match, both falling in three sets before the rain came in.
Â
It is a quality win for the Sunbirds who will hit the road on Monday, March 6th heading to San Diego to play Point Loma.Â
