FRESNO, Calif.- A long weekend gave way to a long, close match Monday as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-8 overall) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Metro State Denver Roadrunner (10-3 overall) at the Haak Tennis Complex.
Gregor Kliimask powered the Sunbirds with wins in singles and doubles for the first time on the same day this season.
After dropping #1 doubles, FPU created a chance to take the opening point behind
Gregor Kliimask and
Martin Ramirez's third straight win as the pairing securing a 7-5 win on court no. 3.
But the Sunbirds dropped a 6-4 match in #2 doubles and ceded the early point to the Roadrunners.
MSU Denver clinched the match quickly on the first three singles courts before
Gregor Kliimask grinded out a 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 victory in #5 singles to get Fresno Pacific a point.
The week was scheduled to be long but the forecast made the Sunbirds condense the timing into three days and wound up playing three opponents.
The Sunbirds have a week and a half to rest before hosting American River on March 31
st at the Haak Tennis Complex.
