FRESNO, Calif.-The most emphatic set of the season straightened out the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (9-13 overall, 6-8 PacWest) in a four-set victory over the Dominican Penguins (0-21 overall, 0-13 PacWest) Saturday afternoon in the Special Events Center.

FPU broke the 1-1 match open in the third with a 25-6 thumping of Dominican and ultimately cruised to a 25-18 victory in the fourth to complete a perfect homestand.

The Sunbirds jumped out to a big lead in the first set and never looked back en route to a 25-17 win. The 'Birds were tidy, committing just three errors in the opening frame while Dominican committed nine.

Three less errors by the Penguins in the second, and three more by the Sunbirds contributed to Dominican swinging the second set 25-18.

But FPU put the mistakes behind them from there.

The third set was the most efficient of the year for FPU as the 'Birds hit .588 with 10 kills and no errors in the frame.

It was also the most lopsided as FPU rolled to a 25-6 win in the set.

That was enough of a momentum boost as the 'Birds put it out of reach in the fourth. Madison Girnius continued her stellar homestand contributing three of her five blocks in a span of four plays and helped FPU close out the match 25-18 to go 2-0 on the homestand.

The Sunbirds had another balanced attack with Corinne Acosta leading the way with nine kills while Makena Ogas added 8 and Girnius finished with another 7 kills.

FPU will hit the road for the matches, facing CUI, APU, and Point Loma before returning on November 8^th to Fresno.
