FRESNO, Calif. - A season high four goals for senior
William Green on Senior Day proved to not be enough as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds fell to the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles 15-9 Friday afternoon at the Sunnyside Aquatics Center.
Fresno Pacific would score first off, a power play from
William Green.
The Golden Eagles would answer on their next possession evening the game at 1-1.
A five-meter penalty was awarded to CUI, which they converted giving the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game.
CUI would score two more unanswered goals to end the first quarter with the lead 4-1.
The Golden Eagles would open the second quarter with another goal before
Pietro Cattano off the assist from Green scored to bring the 'Birds back within three.
Two more goals for the Golden Eagles pushed their lead to four.
The Sunbirds first goal of the second quarter would come again from Green off a shot from ten meters deep as the shot clock expired.
CUI would add another goal to their tally off a five-meter penalty to extend their lead 7-3.
Christian Clark would score his first goal of the game for Fresno Pacific's last goal of the second quarter.
Down 8-4, Fresno Pacific came out of halftime strong with back-to-back goals from
Eugenio Maldonado on back-to-back possessions.
CUI would answer quickly with three goals of their own their largest lead of the game thus far 11-6 to end the third quarter.
The Sunbirds would score first in the fourth quarter, with another goal from Green off of the assist from
Forrest Gray.
The Golden Eagles would go on to score four unanswered goals taking an eight-point lead 15-7.
Fresno Pacific was able to hold CUI scoreless for the remainder of the half as well as add a pair of goals from Green and Gray, but it fell short as time expired and the Sunbirds fell 15-9.
Other senior,
Ethan McLaughlin tallied 12 saves, tied for his third highest of the season.
The Sunbirds will have a quick turnaround as they head an hour up the 99 to face the UC Merced Bobcats tomorrow at 11am.
