HILO, Hawaii- Monday night's match ended in a third straight three set loss for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds at the hands of the University of Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans at Vulcan Gymnasium.
Fresno Pacific found themselves down early 8-2, dropping eight of the first ten points.
Continuing their early dominance the Vulcans took the first 25-13.
In the second, the Sunbirds bounced back to take their first lead of the match 14-13 off a kill from
Presley Hamilton.
The back-and-forth continued until Hawai'i Hilo broke through with a three point run to take the second 25-21.
Kills from
Makena Ogas,
Corinne Acosta, and a service ace from
McKenna Hughes kept the 'Birds in the third set early tying the score 8-8.
Hawai'i Hilo pushed ahead with a three point run to take the lead 14-11.
Fresno Pacific answered with a three straight point run of their own to tie the score 14-14 behind an error on the Vulcans, another ace from Hughes, and a kill from
Madison Girnius.
The tie was short lived as Hawaii Hilo took the next eight of the nine points to take their biggest lead of the set 22-15.
The Sunbirds were able to fight off one match point, but were unable to make the comeback falling 25-17.
Eight Sunbirds registered one of more kills with Acosta leading the way with seven.
Fresno Pacific will head back home for a matchup against the Academy of Art Urban Knights Friday at 6pm at the Special Events Center.
