SANGER, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's water polo team returned home after a full weekend away last Saturday and Sunday to face off against Wester Water Polo Association foe Loyola Marymount on Thursday afternoon. The Lions jumped out to a quick lead and took down the Sunbirds 23-8.
LMU put five goals on the board in the first quarter before
William Green continued his stellar season with his eighth goal of the year with under a minute to go. The Lions were able to add one more as time expired to take a 7-1 lead into the first break.
The Lions opened the second quarter with a goal before
Thilo Popp was able to score his first of the game less than a minute into the period.
LMU followed with three more before Green doubled on his tally, and then
Forrest Gray scored one on a penalty shot after two more Lion goals to close out the first half with the Sunbirds trailing 13-4.
Marymount put two more in the net to open the second half, followed by Popp's second goal of the day and
Eugenio Maldonado's first. LMU scored four more to close out the period before
Pietro Cattano opened the final eight minutes with a goal.
Sabelo Mlaba was able to net his first goal of the season, sandwiched between four LMU goals, and the Lions were able to hang on for the win.
The Sunbirds will have their Alumni Game on Sept. 23 before getting back to WWPA action on Sept. 29 when they travel to Cal Baptist.
