FRESNO, Calif. – The FPU men's water polo team (2-21, 0-8 WWPA) closed out its regualr season on Sunday afternoon, falling 16-8 to the Falcons from the US Air Force Academy (23-10, 4-4 WWPA).

Air Force jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Sunbirds were able to erase it with back-to-back goals from Thilo Popp and Pietro Cattano. The Falcons, though, were able to net one with 35 seconds left in the quarter to regain the lead, but William Green answered with a penalty with 20 seconds to go to tie the game 3-3 heading into the second period.

Air Force took control of the match in the second period, outscoring FPU 7-2. After two goals to open the period from the Falcons, Popp was able to add his second of the game before Forrest Gray added a goal after another Falcon finish.

That sparked a 4-0 Air Force run to end the half, taking a 10-5 lead into the break.

The Falcons continued the run into the second half with two goals before Green ansered with his second of the contest. He added a third goal with 3:55 left in the period after another Air Force goal.

After two more Falcon goals, Blake Johnson was able to put one in the net with 20 second left in the quarter to make it 15-8. Only one goal was scored in the final eight minutes, and it came from Air Force to make it 16-8.

The Sunbirds will be off until next Friday, November 18 when they begin the WWPA Tournament.
