Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

‘Birds Win Sixth Straight with Huge Second-Half Effort

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team picked up a 91-65 victory over Humboldt State on Friday, extending the current win streak to six games. The win improves the Sunbirds to 10-1 against Division II opponents this season and 8-0 on their home floor.

QUOTABLE:
  • "We got really good in our half-court defense, and it kind of solved a lot of things for us. It kept them out of pressure and helped us get out and run in transition. 14 guys touched the floor for us, D.J. Searcy gave us massive minutes, Jamal Briscoe was a +12, and we just got contributions from a lot of guys. The point differential is a bit of an illusion, and it's not indicative of the gap between us and them. They are going to come punch us in the mouth again tomorrow, and they're going to come to the glass hard and pressure us. We've got to get a great night of rest and recovery, and we've got to be locked in from the jump." – head coach C.J. Haydock

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The 'Jacks gave the Sunbirds problems early with a full-court press, helping the visitors jump out to an 11-2 lead.
  • FPU quickly regained composure, breaking the press to the tune of 15 fast-break points in the first half. The Blue and Orange carried a six-point edge into the intermission.
  • The 'Birds never took the foot off the gas in the second half, connecting on 64% from the floor.
  • Over the final 19 HSU possessions of the second half, the Sunbirds limited their guests to just five points.

STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • Reigning NorCal Player of the Week Aamondae Coleman once again led all scorers, scoring 21 points and collecting nine boards in 24 minutes.
  • Nate Kendricks followed with 15 points of his own, while Adrian Antunez approached triple-double territory with 13 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
  • Raine McKeython highlighted a strong bench presence, scoring 11 of the 28 from FPU's non-starters.
  • FPU outrebounded HSU 40-23, marking the sixth time this season the 'Birds have gotten to 40 rebounds in a game.
