Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sunbirds Downed by Golden Eagles

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University men's basketball team hosted CSU Los Angeles in a non-conference game on Monday afternoon. A poor shooting performance doomed the Sunbirds, as they fell 69-58 to the Golden Eagles.

QUOTABLE
"We could not find consistent answers to score at the rim today. We are up and down offensively and have allowed it to infect our compete level on defense the last couple of games. That, combined with a couple of bad lapses and breakdowns is the difference tonight. We will use the break to reset mentally, physically and emotionally, and hopefully come back more committed to the habits that equip us to be successful." – head coach C.J. Haydock

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After an even start, Jelani Watson-Gayle put the Sunbirds up 12-11 with a 3-pointer 6:48 into the game.
  • Garrett Cook and Watson-Gayle hit back-to-back 3-pointers, putting the Birds up 18-13 with 11:44 left in the first half.
  • A late 3-pointer from the Golden Eagles gave them a 33-27 lead at halftime.
  • Early in the second half, CSULA went up 40-28 over FPU.
  • With 11:51 to go in the second half, Darrin Person Jr. made a tough layup through contact and would convert the free throw for the 3-point play.
  • Watson-Gayle followed with a 3-pointer, which was followed by another made basket from Person Jr. to bring the Birds to within one with 10 minutes to play.
  • The Golden Eagles created separation late and went on to take the game 69-58.
