‘Birds Spread Wealth, Rout NDNU to Run Win Streak to Three

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball won its' third game in seven days on Saturday afternoon, cruising past Notre Dame de Namur by a final of 77-54. Three Sunbirds got into double-figures, while freshman Felicia Dourva led all scorers with 21 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • FPU was locked in to start the game, controlling the opening tip and jumping out to a 17-2 lead in the first seven minutes.
  • The Sunbirds struggled to maintain the momentum in the second quarter, shooting just 4-of-11 from the floor and allowing the Argos to make it a four-point game at the half. 
  • Fresno Pacific went right back to clicking on all cylinders after the break, outscoring NDNU 24-6 in the third quarter to put the game on ice.
  • The two teams played within a point of one another over the final ten minutes, with FPU running away with a 23-point victory.  
 
STATS FROM THE GAME: 
  • Cassie Pisik turned in her fifth consecutive double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Bayli McClard shot 6-of-7 from the floor to total 13 points of her own. 
  • Point guard Jessica Malazarte chipped in nine points, while freshman Sara Lundqvist came off the bench to give the 'Birds eight points and five assists.
  • The Blue and Orange shot 50% from behind the arc, with six different players knocking down at least one three.
  • FPU won the turnover battle by a margin of 15-10 while also outrebounding their guests 28-24.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Pisik, the reigning PacWest Defender of the Week, has totaled 57 points in two games this week.
  • The Sunbirds' current winning streak of three games is the second of the season and fifth of at least that many since Tim Beauregard took over as head coach.
