FPU Clinches PacWest Tournament Berth with Win over ‘Swords

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team picked up the biggest win of the season to date on Monday night, defeating Chaminade 76-60 to clinch a berth in the PacWest Conference Tournament. The Sunbirds will now be playing in the postseason for the second consecutive year but will have a chance to finish the regular season as high as the three seed.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Sunbirds came out on fire, opening the game on a 9-0 run that forced the Silverswords to take a timeout to try to regroup. 
  • The FPU lead swelled to as many as 21 with under four minutes to play in the first half, though Chaminade was able to cut the deficit to 13 heading into the intermission. 
  • Fresno Pacific slowed down a bit in the second half but rode a comfortable lead to a 16-point victory. 
 
STATS FROM THE GAME: 
  • Two days after seeing a six-game double-double streak come to an end, Pisik got right back to her old ways on Monday, racking up 32 points and 15 rebounds. 
  • Jessica Malazarte and Bayli McClard each scored 12 points, with the latter collecting 11 rebounds for a double-double of her own.
  • Kate McClard was the final Sunbird in double-figures, scoring ten points and adding seven boards.
  • FPU outrebounded their guests 46-24, but Chaminade won the turnover battle by a margin of 18-11.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Chaminade is the third team the Sunbirds have swept this season.
  • FPU has won the last six meetings against the Silverswords dating back to January 18, 2018.

  • The Sunbirds will open the final week of the regular season next Monday, when they host Biola at the Special Events Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
