Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Nationally-Ranked Cougars Too Much for Sunbirds

AZUSA, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team dropped a road game to league-leading Azusa Pacific on Thursday night, falling 80-54 in PacWest Conference action.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
  • Final: #7 APU 80, FPU 54
  • Records: FPU (8-16, 6-12 PacWest), APU (20-3, 15-2 PacWest)
  • Location: Felix Event Center | Azusa, Calif.

QUOTABLE:
  • "APU is ranked seventh in the country for a reason, and they beat us in a multitude of ways. I thought our initial defense was solid tonight, but we hemorrhaged offensive rebounds and had really bad turnovers all night long. Combining that with early foul trouble was too much for us to overcome. We got good performances from Nate Kendricks and Alex Ferguson." – head coach C.J. Haydock

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Sunbirds found themselves down nine at halftime after connecting on 44% from the floor through the first 20 minutes.
  • The Brick and Black found their stride in the second half, outscoring the Blue and Orange by 15 to put the game on ice.

STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • Nate Kendricks came off the bench to lead FPU with ten points.
  • The Cougars outrebounded the Sunbirds 43-28 and won the turnover battle by a margin of 21-16.
  • Three APU players scored in double-figures, while Selom Mawugbe and Jake Spurgeon each recorded a double-double.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The Cougars have won 15 straight dating back to Dec. 6.
