‘Birds Fall to Former Conference Foe in Road Exhibition

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University men's basketball team was tripped up in an exhibition against California Baptist on Saturday, falling 110-71 in Riverside. The game marks the second of a stretch that features three road contests in six days for the Blue and Orange.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
  • Final: CBU 110, FPU 71
  • Location: CBU Events Center | Riverside, Calif.

QUOTABLE:
  • "CBU did a really good job of disrupting what we wanted to do offensively, and we simply haven't had enough reps to consistently execute through that. Defensively, they are tremendously hard to guard and that showed. We have to keep using these games as an opportunity to get the reps we've missed, and our team will keep chasing improvement moving forward." – fifth-year head Coach C.J. Haydock

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Aamondae Coleman gave FPU control of the opening tip, but the Lancers opened the contest with a 20-4 run over the first seven minutes.
  • Midway through the first half, the Sunbirds ripped of a quick 7-2 run powered by Aamondae Coleman, Garrett Cook and Raine McKeython.
  • Near the end of the first half, the Sunbirds went on an 8-4 run that featured a pair of three-pointers from Spencer Heimerdinger.
  • The Sunbirds shot the ball better in the second half, connecting on just under 50% of their attempts from the floor over the final 20 minutes.

STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • Coleman again finished with a team high in points, going for 19 on an 8-of-13 shooting performance.
  • McKeython followed with 15 points of his own, while Heimerdinger and Cook each gave the 'Birds nine points.
  • In a game where both teams took care of the ball well, but the Lancers narrowly won the turnover battle by a margin of 8-7.
