Red-Hot Sea Lions Defeat Sunbirds in Potential Playoff Preview

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team saw a three-game win streak come to a close on Saturday evening, as the Sunbirds fell 69-59 at the hands of Point Loma on the road. Both teams have already locked up berths in the PacWest Conference Tournament, where they are likely headed for a first round matchup against one another.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds struggled to find the stroke in the first quarter, shooting just 3-of-17 from the floor and falling behind 17-9 after the first ten minutes.    
• PLNU went up by 12 early in the second, but a Cassie Pisik triple sparked a 10-2 run to bring the Blue and Orange within four.   
• The Sea Lions went to the locker room with a five-point lead at the intermission and began to pull away midway through the third quarter.  
• Fresno Pacific got back within striking distance multiple times in the fourth, but the 'Birds were unable to get any closer than six points down the stretch.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Alvarez finished with a team-high 15 points, while Malazarte ended the night on her heels with 14.  
• Grace Brady recorded a double-double as one of three Sea Lions to score in double-figures.
• PLNU outrebounded their guests 51-44, while FPU won the turnover battle by a margin of 16-12.   
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The home team has won each of this season's head-to-head meetings between the Sunbird and Sea Lions.
• Alvarez has now led the team in scoring 11 times this year.
• Dating back to Jan. 17, Point Loma has won 11 straight PacWest games.
