‘Birds Show Eagles No Love in 16-Point Valentine’s Day Win

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team picked up another PacWest Conference victory on Thursday night, defeating Biola 83-67 at the Special Events Center. The win gives the Blue and Orange their 16th win, marking the program's highest total since the 2006-07 season. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds and Eagles exchanged buckets for the first five minutes of the night before going on an 11-5 run to end the quarter with a six-point lead.
• The first part of the second quarter proved much different than the first, with FPU pushing the leading to 33-17 in just six minutes.
Cassie Pisik helped the Blue and Orange to a 14-point halftime lead with a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds over the first 20 minutes.   
• Biola tried to chip away in the second half, but the Sunbirds kept the foot on the gas to defeat the Eagles for the second time this season.     
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Jessica Malazarte's 16 points led all scorers, while Pisik followed with 14 points and 10 rebounds.   
• Bree Alvarez and Ashley Cross each added 13 points, while Kate McClard came off the bench to provide a 4-for-6 shooting effort that led to nine points.
• FPU outrebounded their hosts 57-35, but the Eagles won the turnover battle by a margin of 13-11.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Pisik received the game ball and now has eight double-doubles on the year.
• The Sunbirds will play Saturday's game at the host sight of the PacWest Tournament, which will take place from March 7-9. FPU has already punched the first ticket in program history.
