Defense Flexes Its Muscles Down the Stretch

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific flexed its defensive muscles down the stretch on Thursday night and closed the game on a 12-0 run to defeat Biola, 61-57, in PacWest play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds were efficient in the first half and shot 46 percent from the floor to lead 30-25 at halftime.
• After each team exchanged buckets throughout the second half, FPU found itself down 57-49 with just under four minutes to play.
• The 'Birds then ran off 12 straight points, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Toby Christensen and Nate Kendricks, to take control.
• Kendricks' trey tied the game at 57-57 and after the defense forced a stop, Elijah Hill found Aamondae Coleman inside for a lay-in which proved to be the game winner.
• Adrian Antunez iced the game with a pair of free-throws with four seconds to play.
 
STATS OF THE GAME:
• Coleman led FPU with 18 points and five rebounds, while Christensen added 12 points, five boards and three assists. Antunez chipped in with 11 points and five assists and Kendricks closed the night with eight points.
• Nine different Sunbirds found the bottom of the net. FPU finished at a 46 percent clip from the floor.
• Biola received 15 points from Alex Wright. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds held their opponent under 60 points for the sixth time this season.
• Coleman has scored 18 points in back-to-back games, while it was also his fourth straight in double digits.
