Sunbirds Erupt against Vulcans to Sweep Season Series

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team turned in their largest ever margin of victory in a PacWest Conference game on Wednesday, routing Hawai'i Hilo 75-42 at the Special Events Center. The Blue and Orange are now 7-0 on their home floor this season and improve to 6-1 in league play with the win.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Vulcans opened the game on a 13-7 run, but the Sunbirds outscored their guests 14-8 over the final 4:29 of the first quarter.
• Fresno Pacific dominated the entire second quarter, doubling up UHH for the period.
• FPU only hit one three in the second quarter but made it count, as Cassie Pisik beat the horn the send FPU to the locker room with a 16-point advantage.
• Jessica Malazarte led the charge as the Sunbirds put their foot on the gas in the third, pulling away for a 30-point lead heading to the final chapter.
• The Blue and Orange never took their foot off the gas, eventually closing the game with their largest victory since joining the PacWest Conference.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Four Sunbirds scored in double-figures, led by Malazarte's game-high 15 points.
• Cassie Pisik finished a rebound shy of a double-double, while Rachel Berry gave the 'Birds 14 points and five boards off the bench.    
• Allie Navarette led the Vulcans with 10 points but was still held eight below her season average.  
• The Sunbirds shot 87.5% from the free throw line, setting a new season-high.
• FPU committed 16 turnovers but still managed to win the battle after forcing 21.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Malazarte has led FPU in scoring three times this season, including both games this week.
• Prior to Wednesday, the Sunbirds hadn't won seven home games in a season since the 2011-12 campaign, when they finished 7-6 at the SEC.
