Sunbirds Hit the Road to Open PacWest Play

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific volleyball team opens PacWest play this weekend with a pair of road matches. The 'Birds visit Concordia on Friday before taking on Biola on Saturday down south.

ABOUT THE SUNBIRDS
• FPU is looking to pick up its first win of the 2018 season this weekend. 
• The Sunbirds are coming off the four-game West Region Showcase last week. FPU dropped matches to Simon Fraser, UC San Diego, Seattle Pacific and Chico State at the Special Events Center.
• The 'Birds rank fifth in the PacWest in digs per set (16.00), but sit in ninth in kills per set (10.38) as conference play begins.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
• Concordia enters Friday at 1-8 overall and 0-1 in PacWest play. The Eagles lone win came against American International to start the year. Most recently, CUI fell to Azusa Pacific in straight sets on Wednesday on the road.
• Patience O'Neal leads the Eagles with a 3.00 kills per set average, which ranks seventh in the PacWest.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• The Sunbirds lead the all-time series 52-7. Concordia won the last meeting 3-0 in Irvine.
 
ABOUT THE EAGLES
• Biola currently sits at 4-3 overall and is set to open conference play on Saturday against the Sunbirds. The Eagles are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Sonoma State at the West Region Showcase, a tourney they finished 2-2 at. The two losses came against ranked opponents Cal State San Bernardino (#9) and Western Washington (#15).
• BU currently sits in second in the PacWest in hitting percentage at .220 and fourth in kills per set at 12.21. Karly Dantuma (2.43 k/s) and Sierra Bauder (2.39 k/s) lead the Eagles offense.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• FPU leads the all-time series 46-26. The Eagles won the last meeting 3-1 in La Mirada by a score of 3-1.
