FPU Drops Tight Non-Conference Battle with Dominican

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team was tripped up on Saturday night, falling 3-2 against Dominican at Ramirez Field in a non-conference game. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Dominican 3, Fresno Pacific 2   
Records: FPU (1-7-1), Dominican (4-4-1)
All-Time Series: FPU leads 10-2-3
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After a back-and-forth first half, the two teams went to halftime with a scoreless tie.   
• Dominican picked up two goals in the first 26 minutes of the second half, but FPU answered with a pair of scores to tie the game with less than eight minutes to play. 
• The Penguins emerged from a cluster just in front of the net with the final score of the night.    
 
SCORING: 
• (51:22) Keira Dagy started the scoring six minutes into the second half, chipping the ball just under the crossbar.  
• (72:52) Dagy's shot deflected off the keeper's hands and back to Amanda Harris, who was able to extend the Dominican lead to 2-0.  
• (75:52) Three minutes later, the Sunbirds took advantage of a deflection after Anissaia Gonzalez hit the post. Mackenzie Reynolds gathered and took the second-shot effort to put the 'Birds on the board. 
• (82:35) Gonzalez found the back of the net to pull the Blue and Orange even, firing to the right side of the net for the goal.      
• (85:45) FPU keeper Peyton Shaffer made a save as a slew of Penguins gathered in front of the net, and Lily Dubuc trickled the ball in for the game-winner.  
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Fresno Pacific outshot their guests 18-9, including a 12-6 mark in shots on frame.   
Peyton Shaffer and Alex Benevidez combined for a pair of saves, while Alyssa Ramos racked up 10 saves in the net for the Penguins.    
• The Sunbirds took five of the game's seven corner kicks.   
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
Saturday's loss was FPU's first at home against a PacWest Conference opponent since November 3, 2016.    
• Reynolds became the second Sunbird this season with multiple scores, while Gonzalez recorded her first goal of the season.
