Offense Comes to Life to Help FPU Cruise Past Hawks

HAYWARD, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team picked up a PacWest Conference victory on Thursday night, defeating Holy Names 5-0 in Hayward. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Fresno Pacific 5, Holy Names 0  
Records: FPU (2-7-1, 2-2-0 PacWest), Holy Names (2-6-1, 1-1-0 PacWest)
All-Time Series: FPU leads 12-0-1
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds wasted no time on the attack, finding the net in the eighth minute for the early lead.  
• Two more scores came before the intermission, giving FPU its' biggest lead of the season to date.  
• FPU picked up right where they left off to begin the second half, as the fourth different Sunbird of the night was credited with a goal.     
• The Blue and Orange added one more in the final two minutes to put the finishing touches on their most lopsided victory of the season.      
 
SCORING: 
• (7:39) Hannah Strong connected with Rachel Anderson, who shot from the right side of net and hit the lower left corner.    
• (19:25) Anderson hit the crossbar 12 minutes later, but Anissia Gonzalez was there for the rebound to push the FPU lead to two. 
• (32:22) Mackenzie Reynolds lined up for the corner, and a perfect pass found the head of Whitney Snow for the score.
 (55:21) Reynolds got in on the scoring to start the second half following quick passes from Snow and Anderson.
• (88:43) Alexis Macias stole the ball on an attempted clearance before firing from long range for the final goal. 
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Fresno Pacific outshot their guests 35-3, including a 10-1 mark in shots on frame.    
• HNU keeper Nyah Summers recorded five saves, while Alex Benevidez needed just one to notch her second clean sheet of the season.  
• The Sunbirds took all eight of the game's corner kicks.  
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Thursday marked the first time this season that FPU has scored more than once in a game. 
• The Sunbirds have now seen five different players score in two of the last three meetings against Holy Names.
