Golden Goal in 106th Minute Sinks 'Birds in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team was tripped up in the first road conference game of the season on Thursday, falling 2-1 to Concordia in the second overtime period. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: FPU (1-5-1, 1-1-0 PacWest), Concordia (2-3-0, 1-0-0 PacWest)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After exchanging opportunities for the bulk of the first half, FPU finally got on the board first, striking eight minutes before the intermission.  
• Concordia found the equalizer nine minutes into the second half, but defense prevailed through the rest of regulation.  
• The Eagles broke through in the second extra period, as the ball trickled in for the score after a free kick.
 
SCORING: 
• (37:14) Brittney Chow dribbled down the right flank and laid up a textbook cross for Whitney Snow, who found the back of the net to give FPU a 1-0 edge.  
• (53:57) Cienah Reed dribbled through the middle before chipping to Carmany Jones for the equalizer. 
• (105:21) The free kick came from 30 yards out, but after deflecting off an FPU defender, Isabe Angotti-Jones came away with the ball and the golden goal.  
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• The Eagles outshot their guests 31-9, including a 14-5 mark in shots on frame. 
Peyton Shaffer turned in a remarkable performance between the posts, as her 12 saves were the second-most in a game by any PacWest keeper this season.    
• Concordia took 10 of the game's 14 corner kicks. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
Each of FPU's three goalkeepers have now started multiple games this season. 
• Shaffer entered Thursday's game with one career save under her belt, but she now leads the team in that category.  
• Thursday's game marked the first time this season that the Sunbirds have been outshot by their opponent.
