Birds Stumble in Exhibition with Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team was tripped up on Saturday afternoon, falling 90-51 at the hands of Fresno State in an exhibition at the Save Mart Center. The Sunbirds return to PacWest Conference action on Monday afternoon for the first of three games in five days.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bulldogs opened the game on a 6-0 run before Cassie Pisik's jumper got the Sunbirds on the scoreboard.
• Fresno State carried a 16-8 lead into the first media timeout of the game, but the Blue and Orange played their hosts within a point over the final five minutes of the first quarter. 
• FPU struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the second quarter, allowing the Bulldogs to pull away to the strength of a 54-27 halftime lead.
• The Sunbirds held the Bulldogs to a 13-point third quarter, one of the lowest marks of Fresno State's season to date.
• Eight Sunbirds found the bottom of the net in the second half, highlighted by Rachel Berry and Krystale Gutierrez
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Maddi Utti's 9-of-11 shooting effort led to a game-high 18 points for the Bulldogs, while four of her teammates managed to finish in double-figures.
• 11 Sunbirds finished the evening with a bucket, while Barbara Keomany led the team with five boards. 
• FSU's Aly Gamez collected a double-double with 10 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, helping the 'Dogs outrebound the 'Birds 49-41 for the game.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• FPU has committed 39 turnovers in their two exhibitions this season, but the Sunbirds only commit 13.2 per game in league play.
