FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's water polo team used a strong third quarter to build a lead against Santa Clara, but it wasn't enough as the Sunbirds fell 11-9 on Wednesday night in Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The first half went back and forth, as the Sunbirds trailed 5-4 at the intermission.
• FPU surged in the third quarter, scoring three times while holding the Broncos to only one score.
• SCU flipped the script in the fourth, however, and used a 5-0 run to take the momentum back from the Sunbirds and earn the road win.
STATS OF THE GAMES:

Lazar Raca led the Sunbirds with three goals, while
Jacob Fairchild added a goal and two assists.
Taylor Heckathorn,
Uros Pelemis,
Richard Szepesi,
Cody Wickman and
Kyle Eoff rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
• Josh Ramage headed the defense and made 13 saves in the cage.
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds had its four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday.
