HILO, Hawai'i – Caroline Bodziak's career night powered the Fresno Pacific volleyball team over Hawai'i Hilo 3-1 on Saturday night on the Big Island. Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-21 in favor of FPU.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds impressed in the early going of the match and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The highlight came in set two, as the 'Birds closed the frame on a 10-3 run to take control of the game.
• After UHH managed to steal a set in the third, FPU came out in the fourth and stormed out to a 15-5 lead. The Sunbirds then flew to a 25-21 set win behind a .429 hitting attack to earn the match victory.
 
STATS OF THE GAME:
• Bodziak led the Sunbirds with 16 kills on .538 hitting, while also adding three blocks and a dig.
• Madison Pierce was the other FPU attacker in double-digit kills with 12 on .400 hitting.
• Christina Tran added a double-double of 22 assists and 12 digs, while Greta Dobenecker also chipped in with a double-double 16 assists and 12 digs.
• Four defensive Sunbirds totaled double-digit digs, led by freshman Tiff Wong's 14.
• The 'Birds hit .255 for the game, which bested Hilo's mark of .156. FPU also added 11 service aces.
• Sierra Green led Hilo with 15 kills.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Bodziak's 16 put downs and hitting percentage were both career bests for the junior transfer.
• Pierce matched her career high of 12 kills, which was previously set her freshman year in 2015.
• Dobenecker totaled her team best seventh double-double of the year.
• FPU's team attack percentage and total aces were season bests as well.

• The Sunbirds return to the mainland for two more PacWest matches next week. The Sunbirds head up north to face Academy of Art on Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m.
