CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's water polo team suffered a pair of setbacks on Friday to open the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament. FPU battled back in the opener to force overtime, but couldn't hold off Pomona-Pitzer to fall 10-9, before dropping the nightcap to Chapman 15-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds opened with a strong first half and led 3-2 at the intermission against Pomona-Pitzer.
• Down a pair with under two minutes to play, the 'Birds rallied to force overtime with scores from
Kyle Eoff and
Richard Szepesi.
• FPU then tied the game in the second overtime period with just under two minutes to play, but Pomona-Pitzer managed to escape with a win on a goal with two seconds remaining.

• In game two, the Sunbirds couldn't overcome the high-powered attack of Chapman.
• Down 6-4 at halftime, the 'Birds scored four times in the third period, but the Panthers countered with five scores of their own.
• CU closed out the win with a 4-1 final period.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Eoff and
Lazar Raca led the way for the Sunbirds offensively with three goals apiece.
Erik Brown,
Garrett Pickford and Szepesi rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

Joshua Ramage totaled 20 saves in the cage for the 'Birds.
• The Sagehens outshot FPU 48-31 on the afternoon.
• Adam Gross and Joseph Schafer led PP with two goals apiece.

Floyd Siebenaler led the charge offensively with three goals for FPU against Chapman.

• Ramage's 20 saves was the second-highest total of the year. He totaled 21 in a loss against UC San Diego.
• Siebenaler's hat trick was his second of the season, which also matches his career best.
• Chapman earned the season sweep over the 'Birds with Friday's win.
