FPU Hits the Road to Face DSU, APU

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific volleyball team hits the road this week for two PacWest matches. The Sunbirds face Dixie State on Thursday before competing against Azusa Pacific on Saturday.

ABOUT THE SUNBIRDS
• FPU currently sits at 9-12 overall and 7-5 in league play. The Sunbirds most recently went 1-1 last week, which was highlighted by a 3-1 win over Notre Dame de Namur. FPU also fell to #6 California Baptist, 3-1.
• The Sunbirds sit in a tie for fourth-place in the league standings with Concordia.
• FPU sports one of the best defenses in the league and sits behind only Notre Dame de Namur in digs per set as a team. The Sunbirds scoop up 16.95 digs per set, while the offense is sixth in the league in kills pet set at 12.56.

ABOUT THE TRAILBLAZERS
• Dixie State enters at 8-11 overall and 6-5 in league play. The Trailblazers are coming off a five-set loss to Point Loma last Saturday.
• DSU ranks in the middle of the pack is several league statistics. The offense is led by Lauren Gammell and Hannah Doonan, as both are averaging 2.07 kills per set. Kayla Chapman ranks seventh in the conference in attack percentage at .323 and averages 1.92 kills per frame.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• The Sunbirds trail 4-2 in the all-time series with Dixie State. The Trailblazers won the last meeting 3-0 in Fresno in 2016.
 
ABOUT THE COUGARS
• Azusa Pacific is currently in the midst of a two-game losing streak and sits at 15-4 overall and 8-3 in league play.
• APU, who travels to Point Loma on Thursday, is currently receiving votes in the national poll.
• The Cougars are tall and athletic in the middle and rank second in the league in blocks per set at 2.51. The offense hits .231 as a team, good for second in the league.
• Madison Ogas leads the way with a 3.04 kills per set average, while Sara Wagenveld adds 1.15 blocks per set.

SERIES HISTORY
• FPU holds a dominant 64-15 all-time mark against APU. The Cougars took the first meeting this season 3-0 on Sept. 16 behind 12 kills from Julianne Miller.
