FPU Drops PacWest Match to #6 CBU 3-1

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific volleyball team ran into a red-hot California Baptist team on Saturday, as the Sunbirds fell in four sets at the Special Events Center. Set scores were 25-12, 25-11, 20-25 and 25-20 in favor of the sixth-ranked Lancers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after hitting .345 and .407 in sets one and two, respectively.
• FPU came alive in the third frame and closed the set on a 4-1 run to win 25-20. Kylei Dewar mixed in two kills for the Sunbirds during the run to put the Lancers away.
• Set four went back and forth before CBU managed to escape with the win behind a 5-1 run to close the frame.
 
STATS OF THE GAME:
• Karah Mitchell led FPU with a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs.
• Madison Pierce also put down 10 kills for the Sunbirds, while Malerie Crenshaw and Dewar added seven apiece.
• Greta Dobenecker dished out 18 assists, while Christina Tran added 17 helpers for the 'Birds.
• CBU outhit FPU .232 to .074 on the afternoon.
• The Lancers received 16 kills from McKenna Witt and 41 assists from Sydney Kralj.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• FPU's win in set three snapped CBU's streak of 21 consecutive set victories. The Lancers hadn't lost a set since Sept. 26.
• Mitchell has now recorded a double-double in four straight matches for the 'Birds. It was her ninth such effort of the year, which ranks second on the team.
• The Lancers are off to their best start in school history with their 19th-straight win.
 
UP NEXT:
• The Sunbirds hit the road for two matches next week. FPU opens the road trip on Thursday, Oct. 26 against Dixie State at 5 p.m. PST.
