Sunbirds Host Vulcans, Sea Lions This Weekend

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific volleyball team is set to host two games this weekend, as the 'Birds face Hawai'i Hilo on Friday and Point Loma on Saturday. FPU will also be hosting its annual First Responders Day on Saturday before first serve.

FIRST RESPONDERS DAY
The Sunbirds are hosting a First Responders Day with festivities starting at 1 p.m. prior to the match on Saturday, Oct. 14. Families, fans and students are welcome to come eat, meet and greet our local law enforcement, firefighters and EMT personnel. All first responders will eat free and will be recognized at the start of the match.

ABOUT THE SUNBIRDS
• FPU currently sits at 7-10 overall and 5-3 in league play. The Sunbirds most recently defeated Hawai'i Pacific 3-2 on Monday night. Caroline Bodziak led FPU with 16 kills on .389 hitting, while Tiff Wong added a career best 24 digs.
• The 'Birds have now won three matches in a row, as well as five of their last six games. FPU is now alone in fourth in the PacWest standings.
• FPU sports one of the best defenses in the league and scoops up 16.33 digs per set. The Sunbirds also rank third in the conference in service aces with 102 on the season.

ABOUT THE VULCANS
• Hawai'i Hilo currently sits at 7-8 overall and 4-4 in league play. The Vulcans split a pair of games last week, defeating Notre Dame de Namur 3-1 before falling in non-conference action to Cal State East Bay 3-0.
• UHH ranks 11th in the league in hitting percentage at .162 and is fourth in the PacWest in blocks per set at 2.28. Siera Green leads the team in kills per set at 3.11, while Kiley Davis gives the Vulcans 1.17 blocks per set in the middle.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• FPU holds a 9-3 all-time advantage over UHH. The Sunbirds defeated the Vulcans 3-1 on Sept. 23 behind 16 kills from Bodziak.
 
ABOUT THE SEA LIONS
• Point Loma currently sits at 6-10 overall and 3-5 in league play. The Sea Lions are currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak, most recently falling to Academy of Art 3-1 on Oct. 7.
• PLNU is currently hitting .168 as a team while the defense is adding 15.41 digs per set, both of which ranks ninth in the league. Jaime Cymbaluk leads the team with a 2.58 kills per set average.

SERIES HISTORY
• FPU holds an 67-16 all-time advantage over HNU. FPU won both meetings in 2016 by scores of 3-2.
