FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University women's soccer team picked up its second consecutive PacWest Conference win on Saturday night, defeating BYU-Hawaii 4-0 at Ramirez Field. The Sunbirds improve to 4-2-0 overall, including an unblemished 2-0-0 standing in league action.
"We knew we had to be prepared for a physical game, but we wanted to step up and dominate. We were aggressive and wanted to score every time we got the ball," head coach
Rob Podeyn said. "Every opponent in our conference is capable of beating every other team, but when we step on the field, it's going to take a team at their best to beat us."
Amber Rodriguez put the Birds on the board first after chipping a shot over Seasider goalie Jaylie Jensen in the 13th minute. The Blue and Orange extended the lead before the half after
Rachelle Schiller tapped one past Jensen in a one-on-one situation.
The Sunbirds refused to be content with just two goals, doubling that in the second half.
Bianka Garcia handled a long feed from Rodriguez off a corner kick to push the lead to 3-0, and Rodriguez capped off the win with her second goal of the night in the 81st minute.
Saturday was the first multi-goal effort of Rodriguez' FPU career, while
Summer Hammond delivered her third shutout of the season between the posts. The Sunbirds claimed a 20-11 advantage in shots taken, including a 13-3 mark on frame.
Fresno Pacific looks to continue the hot streak next Thursday, when they hit the road for the first time in league play to take on Notre Dame de Namur. Opening whistle is set for 3:00 pm. Â
