Hannah Ramirez sank a three-pointer with four seconds left to lift Fresno Pacific past Concordia 60-59 on Saturday.
The Sunbirds (4-17, 2-13 PacWest) got off to a slow start, making just one field goal in the first quarter and trailing 16-7, but battled back to make it a game down the stretch, shooting 48% in the second half. The Eagles (2-19, 1-15 PacWest) took the lead on a Brittany Stafford layup with 30 seconds left but Ramirez answered for the Sunbirds on the ensuing possession.
"I thought we competed well today," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson. "Obviously we didn't get off to the kind of start we wanted to, but I thought the girls responded well and eventually settled in and began to play our game. Even if shots weren't falling, we continued to work hard and we capitalized on our opportunities from the free-throw line. Taylor was consistent all day and did a good job of getting to the line. Megan hit some big shots for us in the second half and Hannah came through when we needed it most on our final possession."
Taylor Caspers scored a game-high 19 points to lead FPU, making 11-of-12 from the line.
Megan Lee added 16 points and six assists, including two free-throws in the final minute that tied the game. Ramirez finished with 14 points.
Abrina Salas added five steals.
FPU was out-shot 42% to 34% on the night but the Sunbirds shot 83% from the line (20-of-24) in the win.
Stafford led the Eagles with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but Concordia committed 20 turnovers in the loss.
The Sunbirds host Holy Names on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
