Senior Day Spoiled by Dominican

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific saw its 2015-16 season come to a close on Saturday, as the Sunbirds fell to visiting Dominican 87-79 on Senior Day.

FPU concludes the year 14-13 overall and 9-10 in the PacWest, while DUC moves to 14-13 overall and 10-10 in league action. The loss officially eliminated the Sunbirds from postseason play.

The Sunbirds couldn't overcome a sluggish start to the second half, as DUC ran off a 14-2 run to take control of the game. The Penguins led by as many as 19 in the half before holding off FPU down the stretch.

Matt Hayes led Dominican with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, and added eight assists.

The Penguins benefited from 40 free-throw attempts, making 34, while FPU only attempted 11.

"It's not the way we wanted to finish the year," said head coach Tim Kisner. "I appreciate our seniors. I appreciate the effort they gave us all year."
