ST. GEORGE, Utah - Dixie State forward Taylor Mann proved to be too much for Fresno Pacific on Saturday, scoring 23 points and pulling down 18 rebounds to hand the Sunbirds a 63-55 loss.
Daeja Gilmer scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Sunbirds (4-19, 2-15 PacWest), but FPU had no answer for Mann, who finished 8-of-10 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line to lead the Red Storm (5-16, 5-10 PacWest).
FPU fell behind 13-2 to start the game, but battled back and cut the lead to 28-27 at halftime. DSU gradually regained control in the second half, a big reason being a 44-31 advantage on the boards.
Jasmine Shedrick added 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Abrina Salas and
Hannah Ramirez each had four steals for FPU.
Alex Green dished out four assists.
The teams committed a combined 40 turnovers, 19 of them coming from the Sunbirds.
FPU is back in action on the road next Saturday, taking on Notre Dame de Namur.
