Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

FPU Men Play to 1-1 Tie with Penguins

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against Dominican on Friday afternoon, earning a point in the PacWest Conference standings. With the draw, the Sunbirds now stand at 3-5-2 overall, including a 2-2-1 mark in league action.

"This was a typical game against Dominican. It was very physical and challenging, but I'm proud of the way we played today," head coach Jaime Ramirez said. "We did what we needed to do to win the game but the ball just didn't go in. I definitely saw a level of improvement from our guys today. We have to continue to build, but hopefully the floodgates will open for us soon."

Jordan Zamora put the Penguins on the scoreboard in the game's 33rd minute after sending a shot over the right shoulder of FPU's Matias Fernandez. The Blue and Orange trailed 1-0 at the half, but Benjamin Cowdrill's header in the 66th minute provided the equalizer.

After two ten-minute overtime periods, the Sunbirds and Penguins played to a tie, the first in the 14-game series history.

Fresno Pacific is set to return to action on Thursday, when they continue their PacWest road swing with a visit to Azusa Pacific. Opening whistle is set for 5:00 p.m.

"It's a tough road trip, and we'll have to make some adjustments in the next few days," Ramirez said. "We know it will be unfriendly territory, but we have to do what we can to get the result we want."
