OAKLAND, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific volleyball team defeated Holy Names in four sets at Tobin Gymnasium Monday night. Set scores were 23-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-16.

FPU improves to 7-9 overall and 5-7 in league action with its second straight win, while HNU drops its 14th straight to fall to 1-20 overall and 0-13 in the PacWest. The Sunbirds swept the season series with the Hawks, winning six of seven sets.

"Holy Names came out really strong, like a team who had nothing to lose," said head coach
Tracy Ainger-Schulte. "They put us on our heels for the first two sets. We settled in to our game a bit, and came out with the win in four."

Karah Mitchell led the Sunbirds with 18 kills and 11 digs, while freshman
Hailey Hilvers added 12 kills on .360 hitting and five blocks.
Jasmine Phoolka totaled 11 kills,
Montana Lowe had nine and
Carley Bock added five.
Bissie DenHartog had a monster double-double of 45 assists and a team-high 22 digs, while
Chelsea Speaks chipped in with 21 scoops.

HNU hit .351 in the opening set and after FPU came away with a close victory in the second set, the Sunbirds hit .290 in the third to set the tone for the rest of the match. FPU closed out the win in set four by holding the Hawks to .000 hitting.

The Sunbirds took advantage of 13 service aces, three coming from Speaks. FPU held HNU to .162 hitting on the night.

Marin Gibson led the Hawks with 14 kills.
