Sunbirds drop PacWest opener 78-51

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Taylor Caspers had 21 points and 10 rebounds but Fresno Pacific fell 78-51 at Dominican in its PacWest opener on Saturday. Hannah Ramirez added 10 points and eight rebounds for FPU, which fell to 1-5 on the season.

"Taylor did a great job tonight both scoring and rebounding, and did all she could to keep us in the game," said head coach Lindsey Wilson. "Overall we are still learning and growing as a team. We have glimpses of potential but have to learn to keep up that 'never quit' mentality for an entire 40 minutes."

The Sunbirds shot 33% and committed 22 turnovers in the loss. FPU was out-rebounded 50-37.

Natalie Diaz scored a game-high 21 points for the Penguins (5-3, 1-0 PacWest).

The Sunbirds host Chico State this Tuesday at 5:30 pm. FPU will be putting on a "Toys For Tots" drive. Any fan bringing an unopened toy will receive free admission.
