Fresno Pacific won its fourth straight match, defeating Hawaii Hilo in four sets on Monday night. The Sunbirds (8-12, 8-7 PacWest) moved above .500 in conference play for the first time since the PacWest opener, holding the Vulcans (9-7, 7-6 PacWest) to an .091 attack percentage.
Gabriela Macedo led FPU with 17 kills to go with 18 digs.
Morghan Williams added 14 kills and posted a match-high seven blocks. Five Sunbird finished in double figure digs, led by
Hannah Butler with 29.
Sarah McCann recorded a triple-double, finishing with 11 kills, 11 assists, 11 digs and five blocks.
Bissie DenHartog added a double-double of 46 assists and 16 digs.
Carley Bock finished with 12 kills and
Chelsea Speaks added 16 digs.
The Sunbirds jumped ahead early and led 20-13 in set one before a 10-3 Vulcan run evened the score at 23. A kill by Bock and an ace by Speaks would give the Sunbirds set one. The Sunbirds fought from behind in set two to even up the score at 25-all but a call late in the set went the Vulcans way as UHH evened up the score with a 27-25 win.
FPU then jumped out to an 8-3 lead in set three. The Vulcans would once again fight back, getting within 22-21, but kills by Lowe and Williams brought FPU to set point and Macedo finished it off the win. In the final frame, FPU pulled away with a 9-2 run to end the match.
Marley Strand-Nicolaisen had 16 kills to lead the Vulcans.
The Sunbirds avenged a 3-1 loss suffered last month in Hawaii. FPU will look to do the same on Wednesday when they host Hawaii Pacific.
