#16 Sunbirds Explode Offensively in 7-3 Win at Holy Names

HAYWARD, Calif. – The PacWest's top offense continued to roll on Wednesday night, as #16 Fresno Pacific defeated Holy Names, 7-3, behind five second-half goals at Pioneer Stadium. The Sunbirds fired 34 shots on the evening, 20 coming on goal, as FPU scored seven times for the second time this season.

FPU improves to 12-2-2 overall and 9-1-1 in the PacWest with the win. The Sunbirds now hold a six point advantage over second place Dixie State in the league standings with two games to play. DSU has three games remaining and plays third-place Hawaii Pacific tomorrow at home. HNU falls to 2-12-1 overall and 1-8-1 in league play.

"Holy Names came in fired up and really attacked us early," said head coach Jaime Ramirez. "They have some really solid players, but once we fatigued their backs we were able to generate some offensive momentum. We made some adjustments at halftime and came out and played a different game in the second half. We had a lot of consistent momentum, found our legs and played well offensively to score the six unanswered goals. I was very happy with how the men responded after a tough start, as our leadership from our veterans really showed and ended up making the difference tonight."

The match featured three goals in the first ten minutes, with HNU leading 2-1 until the 33rd minute. FPU equalized on a goal from Renato Bustamante, assisted from Alvaro Nogales, to take the game knotted at two into halftime.

The Sunbirds then took control of the match in the second half with five straight goals to lead 7-2 until the Hawks tallied the final goal in the 88th minute.

Bustamante finished with two goals to increase his PacWest leading season point total to 28. Jorge Chedraui netted his league-high 12th goal (7'), while Dylan Rusconi (59'), Eric Sanchez (80') and Anthony Velarde (88') rounded out the scoring for FPU. HNU scored an own goal in the 47th minute.

Alex Guillen filled in for Andrew Luis in goal for the Sunbirds and made four saves.

FPU is back in action at home this Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. against Concordia.
