In perhaps the most tightly-contested match of the season thus far, Dixie State narrowly won the final two sets to defeat Fresno Pacific 3-2 in PacWest action on Wednesday night.
Carley Bock had a match-high 20 kills for FPU and
Montana Lowe added 16 with a match-high .457 attack percentage but the crucial points down the stretch ultimately fell in DSU's favor as the Sunbirds dropped to 4-12, 4-7 in PacWest play.
The match was a defensive battle that featured 165 combined digs.
Chelsea Speaks was one of five Sunbirds to finish in double figures, leading FPU with 19 digs.
Hannah Butler added 16.
Sarah McCann (12 kills, 15 digs),
Gabriela Macedo (15 kills, 12 digs) and
Bissie DenHartog (59 assists, 12 digs) each recorded double-doubles for the Sunbirds.
Madison Pierce compiled a match-high seven blocks.
Alex Anderson headed up the Red Storm defense with a match-high 32 digs as DSU improved to 10-8, 7-3 in PacWest play, winning on the road for the first time this season.
FPU out-hit DSU .237 to .234, but suffered its first home loss of the year.
All proceeds from the match went to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support the fight against breast cancer.
The Sunbirds are back in action at home this Saturday, hosting last-place Holy Names at 3 pm.
