Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

FPU beaten by #16 BYU Hawaii 100-84

LAIE, Hawaii – Fresno Pacific's losing skid hit five as #16 BYU Hawaii downed the Sunbirds 100-84 in PacWest action Tuesday night at the Cannon Activities Center. The Sunbirds shot 52 percent as a team but couldn't overcome the length and depth of the Seasiders in the opening game of FPU's three-game Hawaii road trip.

The Sunbirds fall to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while BYUH improves to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in league action.

"We were up against a very good team," said head coach Shane Rinner. "BYU played well and their size really hurt us. I am proud of the way we fought until the end. It would have been easy to fold and we came out in the second half and worked hard. We executed some things we have been working on which I was happy to see."

Bobby Barnes and Jeff Amazan led the Sunbirds with 18 points apiece, which marked a co-game high. Barnes connected on 9-of-12 shots and finished with four rebounds while Amazan tallied five rebounds and five assists. Oliver Herting scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, Gabe Solarin added 11 points and Madison Higgins was the final player in double figures with 10.

The Seasiders, who entered the night averaging a league-leading 89.5 points per contest, led from start-to-finish. FPU trailed 18-12 early before BYUH used an 11-2 run to gain control of the game in the opening half. The Seasiders led 56-37 at the intermission.

The Sunbirds trailed by as many as 25 in the second half, but outscored the Seasiders 47-44 in the period.

BYUH out-rebounded FPU 42-29 and received 39 points off the bench compared to the Sunbirds' 18. Daniel Berger led the Seasiders with 17 points and Pablo Coro added 15.

FPU continues the road trip on Thursday, taking on Chaminade. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 pm (PST).
