FPU suffers setback to Sea Lions, 93-68

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Pacific fell to visiting Point Loma 93-68 Saturday night in PacWest action. The Sea Lions shot 58 percent from the floor for a season-high 93 points.

FPU falls to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in PacWest play, while PLNU improves to 7-2, 1-2.

"Point Loma played well tonight, but we have to get a lot better defensively," said assistant coach Colin Matteson. "Playing good team defense is a process and we saw flashes tonight, but consistency is the main issue. It's something we have to continue to commit to day-in and day-out."

The two teams exchanged buckets for the opening half until the Sea Lions closed the final 3:24 on an 11-4 run. PLNU led 45-36 at the intermission and carried the momentum into the second half to outscore FPU 48-32. The Sunbirds trailed by as many 27 points in the half.

FPU was led by 17 points from Bobby Barnes on 7-of-11 shooting. Daveon Gibson finished with 14 points (5-of-7), Gabe Solarin totaled 13 points, six rebounds and six assists and Roger Paul scored 12 points. Trevon Clayton led the Sunbirds with seven rebounds to go along with nine points.

Marek Klassen led the Sea Lions with 18 points and seven assists, while Junior Morgan scored 17 points.

PLNU outscored the Sunbirds 46-28 in the paint and scored 25 points off 16 FPU turnovers. The Sunbirds were without leading scorer Jeff Amazan.

FPU is back in action on Dec. 29 at home against St. Katherine.
