Sunbirds fall 4-1 in season finale

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Amber Rodriguez gave FPU an early lead just seven minutes into the match but the Sunbirds would surrender three goals before halftime and another in the second half to fall 4-1 at Dixie State in the season finale. With the loss, the Sunbirds finish the season at 6-8-2 and finish in sixth place in the PacWest at 6-4-2.

It was a grueling road trip for the Sunbirds, who traveled to Utah following Thursday night's heartbreaking 1-0 loss at Azusa Pacific.

"After having played our hearts out on Thursday and then having the extensive travel to Utah immediately after, today's match was an extremely physically demanding game and we seemed to just have trouble finding the energy and sharpness we needed during the first half of play to be effective," said head coach Erik Farfan. "We feel we made the proper second half adjustments and created some golden opportunities to score, but unfortunately were unable to convert those chances. Obviously this was not how we wanted our season to end, but we are extremely proud of our team for the fight, spirit and competitiveness they demonstrated."

The Red Storm improved to 10-7-1, 8-4 in the PacWest with the win.

The Sunbirds return 10 starters for next season and only lose two seniors, Amanda Hudec and Tori Sena, to graduation. The team is hoping the young talent will continue to develop, making them a force to be reckoned with in the PacWest next season.
