FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific wrapped up a successful 2014 campaign Friday with a narrow 10-8 loss to #14 UC Davis at Sunnyside Aquatics Center.
The Sunbirds celebrated the careers of
Matt Boogaard,
Ian Roos and
Kyle Mauriello prior to match on Senior Night.
"I am disappointed that we lost, but I could not be more proud of our team this season for all they accomplished," said head coach
Bryan Suhovy. "I am going to miss our three seniors. They are leaving some big shoes to fill, but I am excited to see what the future will bring with a strong returning team next year. Ian, Kyle & Matt are a big part of the foundation that was laid in our growing program."
The Sunbirds battled throughout the match and trailed 6-4 at the half and 7-6 at the end of the third quarter.
Daniel Seymour opened the final period with a goal to knot the game at seven with 7:35 remaining. The Aggies responded with two straight scores, however, to take a 9-7 lead to eventually earn the 10-8 win.
Seymour led the charge with three goals, while
Daniel Shunichev recorded two scores for FPU.
Connor Cookingham,
John Samson and Roos rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Dillon Robinson finished with 10 saves in the cage, while

"Tonight the guys continued to prove that we are consistently competing with nationally ranked DI teams," said Suhovy. "The team raised the bar of expectation for all future teams, but I know we are up for the challenge."
The Sunbirds return the WWPA's leading scorer in Seymour, the conference's leader in assists in Maes and goalkeeper Robinson next season, among many others.Â
