The Sunbirds exploded in a 19-goal effort against Merced College on Tuesday for their first win of the season.

Daniel Seymour and Zlatko Vlasic netted four goals each and Daniel Shunichev and newcomer David Maes scored twice. Justin Lopez-Lamb, Steven Kaufmann, Stephen Chafi, John Samson, Matt Boogaard, Kyle Madel and Joseph Graveley all chipped in on the scoreboard as well.

"I was happy with how our guys played. We were focused on improving in a few specific areas, and had a couple of specific goals," said head coach Bryan Suhovy. "The guys improved through out the game accomplishing what we set out to do and achieving the goals we set for ourselves. Our young newcomers have had a lot of opportunity to get minutes and learn a lot. We are building in the right direction."

FPU jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after the first quarter, burying the Blue Devils with rock solid defense. Merced was shutout once again in the third quarter with the victory already well in hand for the Sunbirds.

The win moves FPU to 1-2 on the season as they head into a crucial part of their schedule beginning with the Lancer Invitational this weekend in Riverside.
