Sunbirds dig early hole in 70-61 loss to Argos

Belmont, Calif. - Fresno Pacific dropped their final road game of the season 70-61 to the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur.

The Argos (4-21, 3-14 PacWest) used a 15-2 to start the game to gain a lead they would not relinquish throughout.

Senior Kayla Clement led the Sunbirds (4-20, 4-13 PacWest) in scoring with 22 points on 66-percent percent shooting including 4-8 from three. Callie Rohrbacker added 12 off the bench for the Sunbirds who finish the season 1-11 on the road.

Clement was outdone however by NDNU guard Taylor Dewees who went off for 30 points on 11-14 from the field including 6-8 from three. Dewees started the game 5-5 from deep before finally missing her first three early in the second half. Jasime Waiters handed out 13 assists and Trisha Malaspina pulled down a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Sunbirds were cold in the first half connecting on just 9-36 shots from the floor including 1-12, 8.3-percent, from three, a season low for a first half. The second half was better for the Sunbirds who hit 35-percent from the field including 33.3-percent from three.

The Sunbirds will close out the season at home on Saturday March 2 against California Baptist at 2:30 pm. Seniors Callie Kloubec and Kayla Clement will be honored before the game.
