Sunbirds make it two of three with 62-53 win over Dominican

Box Score

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - FPU improved to 2-2 in PacWest play, knocking off Dominican 62-53 on Saturday. Charde Stevens had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Breana Buczek posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jenay Herring added 10 points and Patrice Saindon dished out eight assists for the Sunbirds (2-8, 2-2 PacWest).

"I am so proud of our never quit attitude. We had a lot of girls step up off the bench and give us good energy," said head coach Lindsey Wilson. "We have to continue to grow and get better heading into the new year."

FPU trailed 40-39 before going on a 10-1 run and proceeding to distance themselves down the stretch. Jasmine Cox had 14 points to lead the Penguins (0-11, 0-5 PacWest).

The win is the second straight over Dominican, the Sunbirds claimed their only road win of the season last year over the Penguins. Defense has been the calling card of late for Fresno Pacific who has held their last three opponents to just 30.9-percent shooting from the field including a stifling 19.2-percent from beyond the arc.

The Sunbirds have a nine-day break before taking on CSU Bakersfield on December 30.
