Greenville, S.C. – The awards continue to pour in for the PacWest Champion Sunbirds who landed three players on NCCAA All-American Teams. Seniors
Gustavo Silva and
Ivan Mirkovic were named to the first team and freshman
Jorge Chedraui earned second team honors.
Silva was named to the first team in the midfield and finished the season tied with Chedraui for the team lead in points with 33. Silva led the team in assists with seven and added 13 goals, a career high. The Brazilian native was named to the PacWest All-Conference First Team in November. Silva finished his FPU career with 31 goals putting him 11th all time at Fresno Pacific.
Mirkovic was also named to the first team after putting together one of the best individual defensive efforts in the nation. The Serbian senior was named the PacWest Defender of the Year in November and was named to the PacWest All-Conference First Team. He was also named to the NCCAA National Championship All-Tournament Team last week in Florida. Mirkovic finished the season with two points after registering assists against California Baptist and Azusa Pacific in the regular season.
Chedraui completed his first season at FPU tied for the team lead in points with 33 and was the top goal scorer this season after pouring in 15 in 22 matches. His 13 regular season goals helped make Chedraui the second consecutive PacWest Freshman of the Year from Fresno Pacific, following in the footsteps of last season's winner and current FPU sophomore
Alvaro Nogales. Chedraui was one of just six freshmen to be named to an NCCAA All-American this season.
Nick Watson was the only Sunbird to earn the NCCAA Scholar Athlete award after posting a 3.89 GPA. Watson played in 22 matches this season with 14 starts, and scored one point on an assist against Cal State San Marcos. The junior will be the only Sunbird defender who made at least five starts to return next season.
