Oakland, Calif. - Fresno Pacific fought off a resilient Holy Names team on Saturday, taking the first two sets before battling out a 3-2 victory (26-24, 25-15, 23-25, 25-27, 15-10).
The Sunbirds (13-11, 8-9 PacWest) hit just .096 but turned in another phenomenal defensive performance, with five players totaling double-digit digs.
Hannah Butler led the way with 25 digs and
Chelsea Speaks had a double-double of 18 digs and 45 assists.
Rupia Inck posted a double-double as well, with 15 kills and 14 digs.
Rachel Brown added 16 digs and
Toni Murphy had 13.
Rebecca Waller added 11 kills and
Morghan Williams had 10 to pace the offense along with Inck. Waller led the team with four blocks.
The Hawks fell to 1-27, 1-17 in PacWest play. Melissa Munley and Marin Gibson led HNU with 13 kills apiece.
The Sunbirds return home next week to face Dominican on Tuesday at 7 pm.
