Sunbirds get back on the winning track, sweep ARTU

Box Score

Fresno Pacific snapped a three-match losing streak on Friday, sweeping Academy of Art in San Francisco.

Morghan Williams had 15 kills on .520 hitting to lead the way. Rebecca Waller added 13 kills and Rupia Inck had 12. Hannah Butler led the defense with 21 digs, one of four Sunbirds in double digits. Inck had 16 digs, Chelsea Speaks added 11 and Bissie DenHartog had a double-double of 42 assists and 11 digs.

"Morghan, Becca and Rupia had great offensive nights, however our defense was the story, with 72 digs" said head coach Kelly Winter. "Bissie dished out some great sets tonight and ran a very smart offense. We served tough and kept them out of system most of the night. I'm really proud of the way they fought tonight especially late in the third set. We executed and dug in deep to finish the match."

The Sunbirds improved to 12-11, 7-9 in PacWest play.

Emily Papale led the Urban Knights (10-15, 6-11 PacWest) with 10 kills.

FPU takes on Holy Names tomorrow in Oakland.
